"Capturing Joy, Celebrating Life: Ganesh Galli through my Lens"

Updated: Sep 29, 2023

In the bustling heart of Mumbai, there exists a place that transcends time, tradition, and devotion—Ganesh Galli. Known as the 'King of Mumbai,' the Ganesh Galli Pandal has been a beacon of cultural richness since its establishment in 1928. This year, it proudly celebrated its 91st Ganpati festival, a testament to its enduring legacy.

What sets Ganesh Galli apart is its unrivaled creativity. The Ganesh Galli Public Festival Mandal is renowned throughout Mumbai for its distinctive themes, often masterfully replicating famous temples from across India. In 2023, they commemorated the 350th anniversary of Shiva's coronation with a remarkable spectacle—an exact replica of the historic ceremony held at Raigad fort, embodied in the form of Durgdurgeswara.

Amidst the jubilation and devotion, a poignant tradition stands out. People from Ganesh Galli who may have ventured away for various reasons make it a point to return for Anant Chaturthi, a day of heartfelt farewells to Bappa.

As a photographer, I have had the privilege of capturing the essence of Ganesh Galli's celebrations. Through my lens, I've witnessed the profound moments, vibrant colors, and unwavering faith that define this annual festival. Here, I extend my warmest wishes to the Ganesh Galli Public Utsav Mandal and share some of my most cherished moments behind the camera.

A Grand Legacy: The 91st Ganpati festival at Ganesh Galli is a testament to the enduring legacy of tradition and devotion that has thrived for nearly a century.

Temple Replicas: The artistry of the Ganesh Galli Public Festival Mandal shines through in their exceptional temple replicas, a visual treat for every devotee.

Shiva's Coronation: This year's commemoration of Shiva's coronation at Raigad fort was a breathtaking spectacle, a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship of the troupe.

A Joyous Return: Families and friends, no matter where they may be, come together on Anant Chaturthi to bid a heartfelt farewell to Lord Ganesha, fostering a sense of unity and belonging.

Umesh Murkar's Perspective: As Umesh Murkar, a passionate photographer from Mumbai, I am deeply honored to share these moments with you. Through my lens, I strive to capture the beauty and emotion of Ganesh Galli, preserving its magic for generations to come.

In Ganesh Galli, tradition and innovation coalesce in a dazzling display of culture and faith. It is a place where the past and present merge seamlessly, where creativity and spirituality intertwine, and where unity and togetherness flourish. As a photographer, I am privileged to document this remarkable journey, and I extend my heartfelt wishes to the Ganesh Galli Public Utsav Mandal, a beacon of devotion and celebration in the heart of Mumbai.
